Acupuncture

How does it work?

When a needle pierces the skin, it bursts the mast cells which lie close to the surface causing a number of reactions, one being an increase in blood flow to the area. As the needle is inserted, sensory nerves fire messages up to the mid-brain which responds by releasing endorphins, adenosine (a natural pain killer) and anti-inflammatories. The effect of an individual needle is determined by where it is placed in the body and which nerves are stimulated.

How many sessions will I need?

No two patients are the same. Some patients feel an immediate difference, others take longer. Once the improvements start, they will continue with each treatment.

How long will each treatment take?

The first session is around 60mins. Liv will take your medical history to understand the full picture of your health from sleep patterns, to diet, to poo! There is no such thing as too much information with this medicine!

Thereafter, 45mins - 1hr.

Do you do cupping/use other modalities in a treatment?

Yes!

Liv uses a number of techniques to treat, cupping being one. Moxa, needles, hot stones and Tuina (manual therapy) are combined or used alone depending on what is needed.

What can acupuncture help with?

Most things! The nature of the medicine is to move blockages and stagnation, and to strengthen deficiencies like Blood and Qi.

According to the British Acupuncture Council, specific benefits include relief from:

Anxiety, chronic fatigue, depression, endometriosis, erratic menstrual cycles, female and male infertility, fibromyalgia, headaches, insomnia, IBS, long covid, ME, migraines, muscular-skeletal pain, osteoarthritis, PCOS, sciatica, stress.

Do you treat kids?

Liv obtained her Paediatric Diploma in 2019, she happily treats all ages.

Facial with acupuncture

Liv uses cosmetic acupuncture alongside organic beauty products to slough off old, dead skin and rejuvenate the basal layers beneath so that what you see in the mirror is plumb, healthy, beautiful skin.

Liv was taught the facial routine by Michelle Roques O'Neil, herself a student of Micheline Arcier (the go - to wellbeing expert for 60's darlings like Grace Kelly). The facial massage uses essential oils and is based on a variety of french facial techniques to release tension and increase blood supply.

The addition of cosmetic acupuncture came at the request of her regular patients. The needles create "positive microtraumas" which sends the body into repair mode, minimising fine lines and improving elasticity. The lymphatic and circulatory system work simultaneously to deliver nutrients and oxygen to your skin cells, nourishing from the inside out. This helps even out your complexion and promote your skin’s glow. Needles are also placed around the body to help with underlying imbalances. As Monica Bellucci once said, "It is the opposite of Botox. Botox blocks, acupuncture moves."

Massage

Your sensory organs of smell, hearing and touch are simultaneously soothed with Liv's expert command of the ancient art of massage. Massage invites you into a para-sympathetic state which slows down the heart rate, lowers blood pressure and allows for healing to begin.

A short consultation helps guide Liv to providing you with 90 mins of exactly what you need within a calm and peaceful setting.

Choose from:

1. Signature Massage - An indulgent dive into a deeper state of pure relaxation. Using long, flowing "Swedish" strokes which interchange between a light touch and deep effleurage, Liv is guided by the Chinese meridians to reinstate the smooth flow of Qi, calm the nervous system and quiet the mind. You are transported "Narnia - style" to a serenely restored, supported and re-balanced human being.

2. Advanced Clinical Massage - This massage blends the best of advanced bodywork techniques used in sports massage - trigger point therapy, stretches, soft tissue release - with ancient hot stone therapy to bring you an holistic/scientific hybrid of a (sports) massage. During the initial stage of injury recovery, inflammation (via neutrophil cells) is key. Scientists have recently discovered that getting the neutrophils out of the injured site early leads to improved muscle regeneration. Massage loads the muscle which squeezes the neutrophils out of the site and helps injured muscle heal faster and stronger.

3. Pregnancy Massage - Liv had sciatica while pregnant with her 1st child - she knows lower back pain! Liv is highly trained to treat specific concerns  - carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, oedema, neck/shoulder/lower back pain. From 1st to 4th trimester, each physical and emotional stage is helped and healed with her expert touch.
